Following the success of “Deleter” in the 48th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), Nadine Lustre is reunited with filmmaker Mikhail Red for the upcoming horror film “Nokturno,” although the premiere date is yet to be revealed.

Lustre’s upcoming project was confirmed by the director in an exclusive interview with U.S.-based media company Variety on Friday, March 3. The film will be produced by Red’s own production company Evolve Studios and Viva Films, while screenplay will be helmed by Rae Red of “Birdshot” fame.

“That’s a sad reality — a lot of filmmakers are very passionate, no matter what, they just want to tell the story, no matter the budget and the pay. But a lot of times, it’s taken advantage of by other studios — they own everything and you have no back end,” Red said, when talking about Evolve, which is backed by Viva.

FEATURED STORIES

Per Variety, “Nokturno” will revolve around a mysterious ancient curse that will haunt an unlucky family. The 2022 MMFF Best Actress will reportedly take on the role of a young woman who comes back from abroad to discover the root of the mystery.

Production for the film is said to kick off “at the end of the year,” and additional details regarding the cast members and release are yet to be unveiled to the public, as of this writing.

‘Friendly Fire’

Meanwhile, Andalio and Garcia are also cast in the upcoming Red-helmed film “Friendly Fire” which focuses on the esports community.

“It’s not your usual crime thriller that most of my films are, it’s something fresh for me and exciting. I like to think of it as my most wholesome project, because it’s more inspirational and it’s a genre I’ve always wanted to try – the sports movie and the underdog sports story. Esports is becoming quite big, especially in the Philippines, and there’s this stigma and the lack of support,” Red was quoted as saying.

The movie will tell the story of female CEO Sonya (Coleen Garcia) who’s determined to put esports on the map. She crosses paths with esports player Hazel (Loisa Andalio) from a random internet cafe.

Filming will take place after Red wraps up his stint as the international jury of the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema, per report.
