Kylie Padilla recalls struggles after giving birth to second child: ‘I was in constant pain’
Kylie Padilla reflected on the dreams she once “wrote in the stars” and have now turned into reality, as she looked back at the difficulties she overcame including when she suffered complications from giving birth to her second son Axl Romeo.
The actress gave an account of the struggles she was able to conquer through a post on her Instagram page on Saturday, Feb. 25. One of the instances she narrated was when she welcomed Axl in 2019 and was diagnosed with postpartum depression and anxiety afterwards.
“The chemistry in my body was out of my control, hormonal fluctuations took a toll on my emotional journey. Complications from birth hindered me from taking care of my kids,” she said. “I’ve never opened up about this but I was in constant pain, constant doubt of my future, if my body would ever recover, if I could even stand or walk properly ever again.”
At the time, Padilla had no choice but to “trust the care of [her] kids to someone else” because she needed to rest to recover. The pandemic, on top of challenges at home, then came, which made the situation worse for her and pushed her “to the brink of almost breaking.”
“These series of unfortunate events made me feel the most human I had ever felt in my life,” she continued. “I was a celebrity but what did that even mean? I had gained weight, I was now a mother, I was no longer the person I used to be. Was there any kind of future left for me?”

Even if Padilla came to a point when she was so “emotionally and physically exhausted,” she said that she took care of her family and “put them first like all wives and mother do.” Although she felt fulfilled, she admitted asking herself, “Was I happy?”
Padilla recounted praying for another chance to “pursue what will truly fulfill [her]” and she was led to where she is now—a life where she has a safe home for her kids, a work that she is proud of, and where her dreams are one by one becoming realities.
“After all my doubt, pain, fighting the silent battles, fighting my own psyche for the right to be happy, I’m here. Still growing, still learning but always striving to remain grounded in humility,” she wrote. “What was once a period in my life I no longer wanted to remember is now something I remember with fondness.”
“…Because no one could ever be happy pretending to be something they aren’t, and I’m done pretending,” she added.
Padilla shares her sons Alas Joaquin and Axl Romeo with her estranged husband, actor Aljur Abrenica, who earlier made public his relationship with actress AJ Raval. /ra
