Parokya ni Edgar’s Gab Chee Kee finally out of ICU, remains in hospital while recovering
Parokya ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee, who was hospitalized due to complications caused by lymphoma, has been out of the intensive care unit (ICU) and will be continuing his recovery in a progressive room.
The band members gave an update on Chee Kee’s condition by showing the musician lying in a hospital bed while holding a guitar, via Parokya ni Edgar’s Facebook page on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Similar to their previous post, the band opted not to show Chee Kee’s face in the photo.
“Finally! Gab is out of the ICU! Thank you Lord!” it said. “Though still far from 100%, he has already transferred to a progressive room to continue his recovery from the pneumonia and the complications brought after.”
The band also appealed to fans to only share positive comments in their posts as Chee Kee is now allowed to use his phone and hence, he will be able to scroll through social media.
“Hindi pa siya makakalabas ng hospital anytime soon, pero eto siya, nagpapraktis na mag gitara para makapag-gig ulit siya para sa inyo!” the band added. “Maraming-maraming salamat ulit sa mga tumulong, nagdasal, at namahagi ng good vibes para sa recovery ni Gab!”

Meanwhile, Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda earlier responded to a netizen who said that if he were Chee Kee, he would refuse to accept the money and instead give it to those who “need it more.” The netizen also said that the P8 million used for Chee Kee’s medical expenses should have just been given to his family.
“Ang sama kasi nung dating na ‘sayang naman ‘yung [8 million]’ as if hindi worth yung buhay ng ka-banda namin,” Miranda told the netizen. “Kung sa kalagayan mo ihahambing, do’n ka sa page mo magpost or sa sarili mo na lang kasi it may come as offensive or insensitive sa iba, lalo na sa amin.”
([Your comment saying] the P8 million was just wasted, as if our bandmate’s life is not worthy, does not sit well with me. If you were to weigh in [on the situation as if you were Gab], post it on your page or better yet, keep it to yourself because it may come [across] as offensive or insensitive to others, especially to us.)
“Kung [para sa] buhay mo ‘sayang,’ para sa ka-banda at kaibigan namin, ‘all worth it,'” he added. (If for you it was wasted, for our bandmates and friends it was all worth it.)
Chee Kee earlier underwent surgery to treat his lymphoma. His bandmates visited him on Valentine’s Day to cheer him up.
Aside from Miranda, who auctioned off collectible items to raise fund for Chee Kee, other musicians who have extended help include Eraserheads, Ebe Dancel, Moira Dela Torre, Gloc-9, Shanti Dope, Flow G, and bands Kamikazee, Gracenote, December Avenue and Typecast. /ra
