Rebel Wilson, known for her role as Fat Amy in the “Pitch Perfect” film series, revealed that she had to put her health journey on hold, as she claimed that her contract allegedly forbade her from losing more than 10 pounds.
The Australian actress made the revelation in the Feb. 15 “Call Her Daddy” podcast, saying that she could not “lose a massive amount of weight” while filming for the hit film series.
“Pitch Perfect” is a 2012 musical comedy film which also starred Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Adam DeVine, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, John Michael Higgins, Elizabeth Banks, and more. The movie went on to have two more sequels in 2015 and 2017, as well as a spinoff TV series called “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” in November 2022.
“I did wait until ‘Pitch Perfect’ seemed like it was over. I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because I was in the contracts for that movie. You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 pounds, or gain more than 10 pounds,” she said. “Yeah, you have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.”
Wilson, however, went on to clarify that she enjoyed playing the role of “confident and ballsy” Amy, but stressed that she wanted to focus on her health after a visit to a fertility doctor.
“I had been thinking for a while like, ‘Oh, I want to get healthier.’ And I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend, which is so hard because I love those roles. I love doing the roles. I love those characters. But then I did want to do more things, but I felt like being the bigger girl, you’re just more pigeonholed,” she added.
The actress said that her appointment to the fertility doctor “really hit [her] hard” since she wanted to increase her chances in fertility as she neared the age of 40 at that time.
“I went to see a fertility doctor and he was like, ‘You’d have a much better chance with fertility if you were healthier.’ It really hit me hard because I was living a fantastic bigger life,” she said.
Wilson, who announced the birth of her first child via surrogate in November 2022, said the weight loss is also a way of wanting to “diversify [her] roles” as an actress.
The “Bridesmaids” star eventually embarked on a “year of health” in 2020 and lost over 80 pounds. Two years later, she came out as a member of the LGBTQIA community while introducing her girlfriend fashion designer Ramona Agruma. EDV
