Dimples Romana has been playing the roles of strong, independent women in some of her projects, and she has allowed their personality to seep into her home’s interior design.
In her portrayal of the villainous Daniela Mondragon in “Kadenang Ginto”, Romana appeared in a glamorous one-shoulder red dress and strappy stilettos pulling a luggage in a street in true contravida fashion. The stark image blew up on social media, sparking a slew of hilarious memes that projected her as a tourism endorser to being a member of Carrie Bradshaw’s clique in the hit TV series “Sex And The City”.
And then there is the stylish Selene Acosta from “The Iron Heart” which showed her giving tough fighting moves while in sky-high heels.
Romana shared that these roles have been so phenomenal that she wanted to keep a little of her characters’ essence in her home to remind her how these roles had impacted on her life.
“From the savings from the teleseryes, I often name the spaces I acquire based on my series. One of them is ‘Dani,’ so you will see a lot of red. I pay homage, to serve as a reminder for me,” the actress said during a press conference sponsored by a lifestyle furniture company based in Pampanga.
“It is not a secret that I started working at a young age. Back then, I only aspired for the things that I could afford. But there’s nothing wrong with dreaming. All these things come to mind every time I buy property,” she added.
Romana said that several people and influences contributed to her style evolution. “I wish I could say it was just me, but that would be a lie,” she quipped. For fashion, she counts stylist Bang Pineda as a huge influence, and as an actor, “Star for All Seasons” Vilma Santos serves as her life inspiration
“I think as I was growing, I reached a certain level of taste,” Romana shared. And this transcends beyond fashion. When she curates furniture pieces for her several homes and offices, the actress said she does not stick to generic pieces, or sets that go together.
“I have several pieces in different parts of my home that are not there to fit in, they are actually there to stand out, and they remind me that I cannot fit in all the time, I have to shock people,” Romana explained.
And if her homes are inspired by the characters she has portrayed, her spaces in turn inspire her to persevere even more in the industry. “I have to let them know that at some point I have to do something you have not seen me do, hence, the Selene character. I’m doing things you have not seen me do before, that makes me proud as a person. These are all affected by the things I see in the house,” she explained.
“So just because a piece of furniture doesn’t seem like it fits in your house doesn’t mean it will not serve its purpose. It’s inspiring you to go outside the box, to become unique. There’s a piece that stands out, that’s what you need. We need to stand out in order to be chosen for any kind of job,” Romana added. EDV
