Dani Barretto addressed for the first time the incident involving Alex Gonzaga smearing icing on a waiter’s face, which the former captured on video, uploaded, then later removed from her Instagram page.

The vlogger said she regrets sharing the video taken at Gonzaga’s 35th birthday party, as per an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN reporter Mario Dumaual during a thanksgiving event on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

“Of course I do have regrets kasi nakasakit po ako ng tao. Syempre wala po sa intensyon kong makasakit lalo na on her (Gonzaga’s) birthday,” she told Dumaual. “Siguro ‘yun ‘yung pinakamabigat para sa akin, na nakasimula ako ng isang bagay na hindi ko naman ginusto.”

(Of course I do have regrets because I hurt someone. It was not my intention to hurt [Alex] especially on her birthday. I think that was the hardest part for me—I started something I did not intend to.)

“Kasi very important sa pamilya namin ‘yung mga Gonzaga. They’re very loving to our family,” Barretto added. “Alex is a very good friend of my sister so talagang mahal na mahal ng pamilya namin ‘yung mga Gonzaga and vice versa.”

(Because the Gonzagas are really important to our family. They’re very loving to our family. Alex is a very good friend of my sister, so our family really loves the Gonzagas and vice versa.)

Barretto said she immediately reached out to Gonzaga to apologize for the cake fiasco, adding that all is well between them.

“[Kay Alex] po talaga ako unang nag-reach out. Wala po akong ibang ginawa, wala po akong ibang kinausap but I reached out and apologized to her first,” Barretto stated. “Kaya lang talaga hindi ako nagsa-salita kasi ayoko na po siyang palakihin. Parang move on na rin tayo sa issue na ito.”

(I reached out to Alex first. I did not do anything or speak to anyone, but I reached out and apologized to her first. The reason I did not immediately speak up on the matter is that I do not want to make the situation worse, [and] so that we can move on from this issue.)

“OK po kami ni Alex, wala po kaming ill feelings towards each other,” she stressed. (Alex and I are OK, and we do not have ill feelings towards each other.)

Days after the icing-smearing incident made headlines, Peter Ledesma, the publicist of the Gonzaga family, said that the waiter is a “friend” of Alex’s mom, Pinty Gonzaga. Alex later issued a public apology for the incident, which she considered a “hard and important lesson [in] humility, kindness and better judgment.”–Anne Pasajol
