After a video of Alex Gonzaga smearing icing on a waiter’s face made rounds on social media, several celebrities including Kris Lawrence, Rhap Salazar and social media personality Sassa Gurl expressed their sentiments on the matter.

Lawrence chimed in and seemingly spoke about the issue in defense of Gonzaga through his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

“So now it’s bad to put cake on someone’s face during a birthday? I thought that was a normal thing,” he said, along with a shrug emoji.

Lawrence also pointed out how people “always have something negative to say,” stressing how the waiter would “probably get something” and “be grateful” after what happened. He said this through a comment on INQUIRER.net’s Instagram post on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The R&B singer then clarified that he was not justifying Gonzaga’s actions but was just speaking against “bullying.”

“Let’s fast forward and after this event that waiter just went viral, will probably get ‘something’ after, and a LOT of sympathy. Most recognition he ever got as a waiter,” he wrote. “So after all the noise…I’m sure he will be grateful that this happened. Looks like people just like to extract the negative out of things instead of the positive.”

Lawrence received criticisms from content creators Karla Obispo and Marki Tan who aired their sentiments through their comments on a Facebook post also by INQUIRER.net on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Obispo apparently implied that the singer was “acting stupid for the clout,” while Tan seemingly asked in sarcasm who Lawrence was.

Salazar, for his part, made his comments on the icing-smearing incident by sharing a re-uploaded video of Gonzaga and the waiter with a caption, “Bastos! Walang respeto! (Rude! Disrespectful!),” also through his Twitter page.

Sassa Gurl then quipped how the actress lived up to the title of her 2022 film “The Entitled” where the two of them worked together.

Gonzaga celebrated her 35th birthday in an event attended by her fellow celebrities and her husband Councilor Mikee Morada of Lipa City, Batangas. During the party, the actress smeared icing on the forehead of a waiter who was holding her birthday cake, as seen in a now-deleted video captured by Dani Barretto.  /ra
