Filipino actress Dolly De Leon is now in the United States to attend the 80th Golden Globe Awards, to be held in Beverly Hills, California where she is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the Film category.
But before she flew to Los Angeles, she was treated to a send-off party by colleagues led by Tirso Cruz III, chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
Cruz shared snapshots of the intimate gathering on Instagram, which took place last January 3, attending by some close friends and members of the council.
“Today I am sharing photos of FDCP’s very intimate send-off party for Ms. Dolly De Leon the other night, the first Filipino to be nominated in the Golden Globe Academy Awards as Best Supporting Actress for the movie ‘Triangle of Sadness,'” said Cruz.
Cruz said the gathering may also be considered a “victory dinner” since De Leon already won another accolade from the LA Film Critics Association Awards (Lafca) — the first Filipino to have done so — for her work in Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund’s satirical black comedy, “Triangle of Sadness.”
It is for this same movie that she is now in the US to attend the Golden Globes, for which she has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Category. “Triangle of Sadness” already won the Palme d’Or for Best Picture at the Cannes Film Festival, and is still rallying for the Oscars.
Cruz said he was able to watch the film while onboard a place from San Francisco to New York last December and he felt proud of De Leon’s achievements as a Filipino actor.
“It was also a victory dinner as she already won an award from the LA Film Critics Association, and we are praying for an Oscar nomination too… I should say, as a Filipino, her recognition is something that we should be proud of, as she carries our country’s name. To Ms. Dolly De Leon, you make us proud! Mabuhay Ka at ang bansang Pilipinas! God bless you!” he said on Instagram.

De Leon, earlier told Inquirer Entertainment when she received the commendation from the Lafca, that it is a “huge honor” to have been noticed for her performance in the film, adding that it is “overwhelmingly gratifying to be recognized by a panel of critics with very distinct tastes and are members of a prestigious award-giving body like the Lafca.”
Aside from De Leon, four other actresses are vying for the same category, namely: Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), and Carey Mulligan (She Said).
