Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda said he experienced his “worst nightmare” as a vocalist after he lost his voice and struggled to sing during his recent gig, where he staged his last performance for this year.
On Instagram on Wednesday, the singer showed a picture of himself during an event at a hotel in Mandaluyong, seemingly having a hard time performing while pointing towards the audience.
“Tonight’s gig was definitely my worst for this year… but also one of the best for Parokya,” he said in the caption.
Miranda then narrated that he was not expecting the gig to push through.
“Tuluy-tuloy kasi ang gigs ng Parokya buong December, and dapat di na daw tuloy ‘tong gig na ‘to… so akala ko last gig na namin nung 19 (Monday) at nag-sked na ko ng bakasyon with my kids ng Tuesday (20-21).”
(Parokya had several consecutive gigs this December and initially, this gig was already canceled. I thought our last gig was on Dec. 19 so I scheduled a vacation with my kids on Dec. 20 to 21.)
The lead vocalist then went on a beach trip with his family where he played with his kids under the rain. Right after their trip, Miranda went straight to the event’s place and prepared for their band’s performance.
“Sulit naman [‘yung trip] dahil sobrang nag-enjoy yung kids pero ‘yun nga, nawalan na ako ng boses. My worst nightmare bilang bokalista,” he continued.
(The trip was definitely worth it because the kids really enjoyed it but unfortunately, I lost my voice shortly afterwards. It was my worst nightmare as a vocalist.)
He then expressed gratitude to the lively audience during the event who sang along with the band and who did not mind even when Miranda was not at his best.
“Buti nalang sobrang saya ng crowd and wala silang paki sa boses ko. Ang ending, napadami pa kami ng kanta at sobrang enjoy yung gabi,” he narrated. “I was struggling buong set at nahihiya talaga ako kasi di ko mabigay yung best ko pero ni once never pina-feel ng crowd na kulang ‘yung binibigay namin bilang banda.”
(It was a good thing that the crowd was very lively and they did not care about my voice. We were even able to perform a lot of songs and we really enjoyed the night. I was struggling the whole set and I was really embarrassed because I could not give my best, but the crowd never — not even once — made us feel that our performance as a band was lacking.)
