In Wish 107.5 and KDR Music House’s “Wish Date” concert series, elements of music, cinema and radio converge to produce what could be described as a live musical storytelling concept of sorts.

A silent short film is shown onscreen, while a disc jockey narrates the events. In between scenes, the night’s lineup of artists perform songs that aim to enhance the narrative and heighten the emotions being conveyed by the actors.

Held recently at The Theatre at Solaire, the series’ fourth installment, titled “My Sweet Lady,” starred Ritz Azul and Arnold Reyes, who played a couple trying to navigate a tumultuous marriage arranged by their parents. Unlike the previous short films, this one gave the actors speaking lines.

Delightful experience

“It was very unique—so many forms of entertainment [in one show]. I believe this is the first time I have experienced a concert that was tied to a movie. It was definitely a delightful experience,” Nyoy Volante, one of the concert’s guest artists, said in an interview.

The singer-songwriter, best known for acoustic pop music, particularly enjoyed his performance of “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko” in which he was accompanied by an orchestra.

“I’m fortunate enough to perform with an orchestra every once in a while, but it’s always a special experience when it happens. The integration of the orchestra with other art forms made it refreshingly different,” said Nyoy, who also sang “More Than You’ll Ever Know” by Michael Ruff and the title song “My Sweet Lady” by John Denver.

Aside from Nyoy, other artists and acts like December Avenue, Mark Michael Garcia, Peniel and Kimberly Baluzo, Plethora and The Bradz also took the stage to complete the night’s hefty set list of almost 30 songs. INQ
