Bianca Gonzalez spoke up on her experience with emotional and physical abuse during her teenage years, as she seeks to raise awareness on gender-based violence.

The TV host opened up on her personal experience with gender-based violence to mark the beginning of the United Nations project “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence,” as seen on her Instagram page yesterday, Nov. 25.

“In my teen years, I was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship, and it was only when I mustered up the courage to tell a friend about it that they helped me wake up and realize I HAD to get out of that situation,” she recalled.

Gonzalez stressed that she is telling her story to let the public know “how real gender-based violence is.”

“I pledge to listen, and do what I can to help others who may be in the same situation, to encourage them to voice it out and share even to just one person, because that is when empowerment to get out of the cycle of violence begins,” she said.

“Ending the culture of violence and inequality will take all of us working together. Together, we can #EndVAW (violence against women),” Gonzalez added.

Gonzalez also urged the public to make similar pledges on their own social media accounts and participate in the UN’s project to end violence against women.  /ra
