“I’m very happy. Mas lalo akong nakumpleto.”

“I get to experience new things. I’m being hands-on with taking care of my family and child,” Dennis said when asked by the Inquirer about fatherhood at a recent press conference for his new GMA 7 primetime series, the historical fantasy “Maria Clara at Ibarra.”

“I feel like this is one of the happiest stages of my life,” said the 41-year-old star, who has a 15-year-old son, Calix, with Carlene Aguilar. Jennylyn, on the other hand, has a 14-year-old son, Jazz, with Patrick Garcia.

Because some television projects require monthslong locked-in taping sessions these days, it can be a challenge balancing time for family and work. “It’s tough but you just have to get used to it,” he said.

Time management

“You have been good at managing your time as an actor and as a father at home. There are now more things you have to consider, especially when you have to go on a locked-in taping. But once you get your time and schedule management down pat, you will have an easier time making adjustments,” Dennis added.

And no matter how exhausted he is upon getting home from work, he makes sure he spends time with his family. “My role as a father continues. It doesn’t matter how late I arrive at home. Sometimes, I’m home by dawn or by morning. I check on them. I don’t go to bed without taking care of them and spending time with them,” he said.

“I don’t want to let work become a hindrance to my duties as a father,” Dennis said. INQ
