Undoubtedly, Deadpool and Wolverine are two of the most popular mutants Marvel has ever created. They are, and everyone knows it.
From the perspective of Marvel Comics, let us compare the mutant abilities and enhancements that Deadpool and Wolverine have, respectively.
Deadpool has mega-mutated levels of healing abilities, as seen in Marvel Comics and films. He can lose a limb, be blown up, or even be ripped in half and survive and regenerate. While Wolverine has sped up levels of healing abilities, or as it is more commonly known in Marvel Comics jargon, his mutant healing factor, that means Wolverine will almost certainly die if he is blown to smithereens or ripped in half.
For enhancements, Deadpool has had a lot of improvements or artificial enhancements since they experimented on him and turned him into a mutant guinea pig, but what are they exactly? They are never explicitly mentioned or singled out. On the other hand, Wolverine has adamantium-laced bones that make him nearly impossible to break because he is “Weapon-X” and a mutant experiment of the “Weapon-X” project, and his mutant healing factor adds to that.
They have steadily grown in popularity since the early 1990s, and this trend has not changed.
The long-awaited crossover between Deadpool and Wolverine will take place in Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds announced on his YouTube channel. And what a way to reveal this to the world! The only way someone who is naturally funny like Ryan Reynolds can only do plus, he thinks like a fan, and because of that, he knows what fans want to see.
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans have long expected this exciting news. Many of us assumed that when Wolverine appeared to die in “Logan,” the possibility of Deadpool collaborating with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine would never, ever happen!
What a difference time can make, and how grateful we are!
I believe this will be one of Marvel’s final attempts to restore public trust in the MCU. Because, as we all know, the MCU is experiencing some “misses,” and things aren’t looking good in terms of financial returns from a few of the previously released movies and several of the MCU streaming shows.
But, with Deadpool 3 set for an official release date of September 6, 2024, that is still a long time away, but knowing how dedicated the MCU core fan base is, I am confident they will wait long enough and, in the meantime, let the fantasy bookings, speculations, rumors, and what-if scenarios run wild until then.
As a long-time Marvel comic book collector and reader, I see this as tying everything from the first two Deadpool films and the “Logan” film together, because if you can dissect those three films and connect the things that should be tied in with “Logan,” you will have a reasonably accurate understanding of how Wolverine will be alive in Deadpool 3. His death in “Logan” was not final.
It will take two years, but it will be worth watching the most badass Marvel mutants on the big screen together!
Deadpool and Wolverine are in one movie! I never imagined it would come true!
