Mona Alawi celebrated her 18th birthday through an intimate pajama party with her family, as she wished to spend more on helping sick children rather than hosting a grand event.
Mona, who has type one diabetes, was asked by her sister, fellow actress-vlogger Ivana Alawi, what she wants to do on her birthday, as seen in a vlog on the latter’s YouTube channel yesterday, Sept. 7. Mona then spoke about her wish to extend help to children battling illnesses.
“Basta sama-sama tayo [at] makatulong — if pwede, to help kids, ‘yung mga sick kids, kasi I’ve been there and I’m still there,” Mona answered. (As long as we are together and [I also want] to help — if possible, [I want] to help sick kids because I have been there and I am still there.)
“I’m still getting better and since we have the means to do so, I really want to help other sick kids,” she stressed.
Ivana revealed that she was about to book an events place at a hotel for her sister’s birthday, but Mona opted to just celebrate in a resort in Batangas.
“Nanghihinayang lang ako kasi (I just feel [uncomfortable spending that much] because) we could use the money to help other people and at the same time, I’m really really happy — I have nothing against big parties, it’s nice pero ako, OK na ako sa tayo-tayo lang (but for me, I am OK celebrating with just us),” Mona added.
Mona and Ivana, together with their siblings Hash, Amira and mom Fatima, went to the resort where Mona prepared sleepwear for each of them. The family bonded by doing a TikTok dance video before proceeding to the surprise cloud-themed dinner party organized by Ivana.
Meanwhile, Ivana and her family earlier gave away food packs and P1.2 million cash to thank fans for the actress’ YouTube milestone of earning 15 million subscribers. JB
