No more awkward feelings between Arra San Agustin and ex-suitor, ‘Lolong’ star Ruru Madrid

Because they were once linked romantically, Arra San Agustin admitted that being reunited with Ruru Madrid onscreen for “Lolong” was awkward at first.

“May kaunting ilangan, awkwardness. But we talked about it and we knew we had to be irreverent to each other. I needed to get past that because it will affect our job and our acting —especially since most of my scenes are with him,” Arra said in a recent virtual conference.

Six years

Ruru revealed that he tried to court Arra after working together in the 2016 reboot of the iconic fantaserye “Encantadia.” But nothing came of it, Ruru said.

“I worked with her in ‘Encantadia’ and I guess it’s safe to say that, during that time, I tried courting her. But nothing happened. After the show, we didn’t see each other for six years. We didn’t get a chance to work together until now. So there was indeed awkwardness at first,” Ruru related.

Teasing

What helped them get over that feeling was all the teasing they got from their costars and the production staff. “They teased us on the set, but it was more about making things feel lighthearted on the set,” Ruru said. “‘Yung pang-aasar, it helped loosen things up,” Arra agreed.

Ruru and Arra eventually realized that they were better off as friends. Besides, they both seem happily in love with their respective partners: Ruru is currently in a relationship with Bianca Umali; Arra, on the other hand, is dating basketball player Juami Tiangson.

“Our friendship became deeper,” Ruru said.

“We’re now friends, so we understand each other better,” Arra said. “And we now have our own lives, so that made working together easier.” INQ
