Goodbye to troubled show, hello to rehash

/ 10:30 PM June 19, 2012

Show-biz Insider is seriously concerned: Is a certain TV prime time slot jinxed? “All the projects that major studio has churned out for it have bombed,” says SI.

Although the projects boasted big stars, the studio has failed to make a dent on the competition.

The latest such project is a show top-billed by Scandalous Celebrity.

Rumor has it that SC’s program will soon bid adieu, to be replaced by the remake of an old show—make that an ancient show, “reinvented” with grizzled stars.

FEATURED STORIES

But according to a mole, SC’s program will resurface sooner or later in its old slot. Another spy says nothing is final, anyway, so SC need not step out in a huff.

Go ahead, sulk!

Together, three powerful show biz personalities ran a thriving business on the side. But even the most profitable things must come to an end, and they’re soon closing shop.

We’re not asking why; it’s totally their prerogative. What we want to know is, why are the less than a dozen employees pulling their hair over the retrenchment terms?

Unfortunately, the workers can do little more than sulk. That’s how powerful the bosses are.

The promise

Influential Benefactor seems to have fulfilled all the dizzying promises made to Hunky Actor.

IB made sure that HA would be showered with high-profile projects—on top of which, HA was conferred a much-coveted honor in the entertainment industry.

Seems IB promised HA not only popularity, but also respectability. How strange that prestige should come with a dubious price tag.

Sleeping beauty

While all of Show Town was going berserk, Controversial Personality remained blissfully unaware.

Reporters wanted to get CP’s opinion on a raging issue. That’s because CP suffered a setback in an ongoing skirmish with Shocking Celebrity.

CP’s handlers only had this to say: Sorry, CP is sleeping.

Rude awakening

Veteran Star was shocked that Glamorous Celeb had a mouthful to say against VS.

An insider said, “VS helped GC’s parents when they were struggling.” VS pointed out that the word war has proved how ungrateful GC is.

Opposite of darling

Hasn’t Pretty Starlet noticed?

On out-of-town trips hosted by her studio, reporters refuse to interview her. Is it because PS is perceived as aloof? She never remembers reporters’ names, for one. Or is it just because she is boring?

Whatever the reason, PS isn’t going to be proclaimed “Darling of the Press” anytime soon.

Derek misses Angel

DEREK misses you-know-who.

“I miss her tremendously,” said Derek Ramsay, who announced his breakup with actress Angelica Panganiban just two months ago.

The actor-TV host told Rushes that he and Angelica remained “on good terms” and again denied the involvement of a third party. “She has things she needs to do and I have things I need to do as well. We’ll never know until that day comes if ever we’d get back together.”

Derek talked to reporters during a TV5 junket in San Francisco. We heard they  couldn’t help but be alerted whenever he was seen taking a long call on his cell phone. It was his mom, he is said to have told them. And because there was no proof to the contrary, they left it at that.

Too busy for love

Megan Young is irked that, despite her repeated denials, people are still convinced she’s dating model-actor Mikael Daez.

The Filipino-American actress clarifies that she has been friends with Mikael since before he joined show biz in 2011. “We belong to the same group of college friends. I guess people saw us with the group, and since Mikael and I were the only show biz people in that big group, they automatically thought we were an item.”

She is glad that the rumor has not affected their friendship: “We just laugh about it. What else can we do? I’m too busy with work and school to worry about love.” Megan is a junior film student at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.

She plays an important role in ABS-CBN’s latest series, “Precious Hearts Romances” offering titled “Hiyas.” The series revolves around Silang (portrayed by Zanjoe Marudo), a tribal warrior.

Top of the talk shows

For those who missed last weekend’s TV gabfests (and why we are moved, if we are moved):

Katrina Halili, asked if she and Kris Lawrence planned to live together after she gives birth: “’Di naman siguro. Magkalapit lang naman ’yung bahay namin, magkapitbahay lang kami.” (Think, girl: How would he help change diapers?)

Eric Quizon on persistent rumors that dad Dolphy is already dead: “Parati siyang natsi-tsismis na namatay pero I think ’yung mga ’yun, lalong pinapahaba buhay niya, eh.” (Until it’s true, well, it’s not!)

Vic Sotto on rumors that he and rumored GF Pauleen Luna have cooled off: “’Di ko maintindihan kung saan nanggagaling ’yang mga kung anu-anong mga naririnig mo. Natatawa na lang ako. ’Di naman makakapagpabago sa ekonomiya ng Pilipinas ’yun, eh … kung anuman ang nangyayari sa love life ko.” (Sounds like a “maybe.”)

Vic Sotto on his alleged plans to run for Quezon City mayor: “I can be of help to our people without entering politics.” (We should get all politico wannabes to think this way.)

Maxene Magalona on breaking up with her non-show biz boyfriend: “Naging faithful siya sa ’kin and I can say na maayos talaga ’yung relationship namin. But … there were times na ’di magkasundo … ’wag na lang patagalin.” (How … mature.)

(“Dante’s Inferno” seems to have specified a place for that sort …)

Richard Gomez, asked what she would give up for daughter Juliana: “My life!” (Happy Daughter’s Day!)

Zoren Legaspi, teasing Ruffa Gutierrez about their past relationship: “Nung nag-Miss World ’to, close kami. Nung nanalo, bigla akong binitawan … iniwan mo kaya ako! Ni letter wala akong natanggap. Bigla na lang nawala! Basta nabalitaan ko, ang mga ka-date niya mga prinsipe na!” (Behind every joke is a very painful truth.)

John Prats on being linked to Angelica Panganiban: “Bata pa lang kami magkasama na kami. Siyang ’yung best friend kong babae … Masyado kaming friends.” (Parang ’di siya masaya du’n.)

John Estrada on his children’s reaction to his new baby with Priscilla Meirelles: “My kids love babies … basta babies gusto nila. What more kung kapatid nila?” (It’s not exactly a guarantee, but we can let that slide.)

MAJA Salvador. Photo by Richard Reyes

(She did OK, considering all that.)

Paulo Avelino, asked who he was dedicating his Urian best actor award to: “Siguro sa Diyos kasi everything comes from Him. Siya talaga ’yung nagbibigay ng lahat sa ’tin, eh.” (Siguro? Ah, kasi, there are your parents, director, producer, fans…)
