Phillip Lazaro, comedian and director, passes away

Phillip Lazaro, veteran comedian and director, has died, as confirmed by celebrities and friends in their tribute posts.

Lazaro’s work colleagues penned their goodbyes to the director through their respective Facebook pages today, July 11. One of those who remembered Lazaro was set production designer Jay Custodio, who described the late comedian as “one of the sweetest and supportive directors.”

“It’s a sad day today, one of the most [fine] and kind directors that I’ve worked with just passed away,” Custodio stated. “Praying for the repose of your soul direk [Phillip Lazaro]. You will be missed! Thanks for all the laughs and chikahan! Love u Direk!”

Actress Jillian Ward also expressed grief as she showed a photo of herself with Lazaro in what appears to be a project they did together.

“Rest in peace, direk Philip Lazaro,” she said.

Lazaro’s family is yet to release a statement on the director’s death, as of this writing.

Lazaro, who celebrated his birthday last June 12, starred in several films including “Wanted: Perfect Mother” (1996), “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” (2000) and “Unexpectedly Yours” (2017). He also served as the second unit director of GMA TV series “Prima Donnas” (season two), “Widow’s Web” and “Nagbabagang Luha.” JB
