Patrick Sugui explains Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla’s absence at wedding

“Pinoy Big Brother” alum Patrick Sugui clarified why his friends, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, were absent from his wedding after netizens apparently questioned the newlyweds’ friendship with the reel- and real-life couple.
Sugui made his explanation as a comment on actress Gabbi Garcia’s Instagram post last Thursday, April 21, wherein she congratulated Sugui and his non-showbiz wife Aeriel Garcia.
This comes after netizens started looking for Padilla and Bernardo in the wedding photos, saying the friends might be “not okay.” Padilla and Bernardo are currently on lock-in taping for their upcoming TV series.
“Pwede ba ‘yon, best friend mo, wala sa pinakamahalagang araw ng buhay mo? [Come on] ‘wag kami, don’t fool us!” one @theironladyy said.
(Is that okay, your best friend is not present at the most important day of your life? Come on, not us, do not fool us!)

When Sugui explained that Bernardo and Padilla are in a lock-in taping, the netizen called the reason “napakababaw.”
“Napakababaw na rason ang lock-in taping nila. Kung gusto may paraan, kung ayaw may dahilan […],” the netizen added. “Aminin niyo na lang na hindi kayo okay lahat.” (Their lock-in taping is a very superficial reason. If they want to, they can find a way, if they do not want to, they can give reasons […] Just admit that you are not okay.)
Another netizen, @apcbadz, meanwhile, questioned why Bernardo and Padilla did not post online greetings for the newlyweds.

“Kasi po nasa bahay lang ako ni DJ (Padilla) a week before the wedding. Ako po nagpaalam sa director nila if pwede sila payagan kahit for one day lang. Pero hindi talaga [and] we understand,” Sugui replied. “Bida sila sa show nila, sila ang pinakabusy.”
(I went to DJ’s house a week before the wedding. I personally asked their director if she would allow them [to leave the taping] for just one day. But it was really a no and we understand. They’re the lead stars in a show, they’re the busiest.)
Fans of Bernardo and Padilla apologized to Sugui for the netizens’ comments, while Gabbi and her boyfriend actor Khalil Ramos, requested the public to respect the newlyweds.

Other celebrities who were at the wedding were Vice Ganda, Julia Barretto, Dominic Roque and Khalil Ramos, among others.
While Bernardo and Padilla did not make it to the ceremony, it can be noted that they attended Sugui and Aeriel’s surprise engagement party in January 2021. Sugui and Aeriel got engaged in December 2020 after being in a relationship for two years. /ra
