Robi Domingo has called for improvements in the Philippines’ education system after the Filipino martyr priests GomBurZa were mistakenly called “MaJoHa” by “Pinoy Big Brother” teen housemates.
The TV host-VJ was quizzing housemates Kai Espenido and Gabb Skribikin of “Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity” when both failed to answer a question on the collective name that priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora are known for, GomBurZa. Instead, the contestants called the priests “MaJoHa,” as seen on PBB’s Twitter page last Sunday, April 10.
Domingo expressed his disappointment over this as he urged fellow content creators to “battle #MaJoHa” via his Twitter page today, April 12.
“Sa una, nakakatawa pero habang tumatagal, di na nakakatuwa. Sana maging daan ito para makita kung ano ang kakulangan sa sistema ng ating edukasyon. Sa lahat ng content creators, let’s battle #MaJoHa,” Domingo said.
(At first, it’s funny but as time passes by, it’s not amusing anymore. I hope this will be a way to shed light on the gaps in our education system. To all content creators, let’s battle #MaJoHa.)

Several netizens on Twitter shared the same sentiment as Domingo and stressed that frustrations should be directed at the Department of Education (DepEd).
“I know we’re all pissed at the PBB Teens for the GomBurZa thing but let’s direct our frustrations towards @DepEd_PH instead. In my day, even kids [with] the lowest grades knew [about] GomBurZa. If these [two] girls couldn’t retain something as simple as that, it’s the system that’s failed,” one @zuzusexytiems said.

“Though the young ones also have the responsibility to learn but there must be a disconnect in the way they are learning if something as simple as GomBurZa is not retained,” another netizen @hiphoplalisa stated.
i know we’re laughing and having fun but this reflects how poorly our education system has come to. though the young ones also have the responsibility to learn but there must be a disconnect in the way they are learning if something as simple as gomburza is not retained https://t.co/zOI1yALgMQ

“GomBurZa” also trended online recently after the said PBB episode, with netizens calling for the opening of schools.
So far, the expansion of limited face-to-face classes was approved for areas under alert levels 1 and 2. Last month, over 10,000 schools were permitted by DepEd to resume in-person classes. Only vaccinated teachers are allowed to hold such classes and participating students have to present written consent from their parents to be part of the setup. /ra
