Katy Perry managed to shake off a wardrobe malfunction that she suffered while performing onstage at the new season of “American Idol.”
The singer was having an impromptu performance of her hit song “Teenage Dream” with her fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan when the incident happened. As she hit the lyrics “put your hands on me in my skin-tight jeans,” Perry bent over and split open her red glossy pants, as seen on her Twitter page yesterday, March 29.
The back of Perry’s pants were ripped, exposing her rear. The “American Idol” production team played it off for laughs by placing a logo of the talent show over the split pants.
“They busted!” one of Perry’s co-judges can also be heard yelling in the background.
Instead of running offstage due to the incident, Perry asked the production crew for some tape for a temporary fix to the torn clothing. The show’s staff eventually hid the tear with bright yellow tape, though it was not so subtle but covered most of the pants’ rear.
“I’m [gonna get your] heart racing in my skin-tight jeans on ‘American Idol’ tonight. Tune in now for a ripping good time,” Perry quipped.

This is not the first wardrobe malfunction Perry endured while on the singing competition. Back in 2018, the singer also ripped her pants after laughing too hard. She managed to recover at the time, with help from the show’s staff. /ra
