The Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, has been preparing for her wedding to her coach-trainer Julius Naranjo, and she finally found a designer for her gown, the veteran Francis Libiran.
Libiran announced Diaz’s choice by showing a photo of himself with the Olympic champion and her fiance Naranjo, via Instagram last Wednesday, March 2. Libiran’s business partner, Arsi Baltazar, was also present.
Diaz could be seen looking at piece of paper which supposedly bears the design of her gown.
“Love is Golden. The World Champion deserves only the gold standard in fashion design on her special day!,” Libiran’s page stated. “#FrancisLibiran is beaming with pride to be chosen by 2020 Tokyo Olympics Gold Medalist #HidilynDiaz (@hidilyndiaz) and fiancé Julius Narajo (@imjulius) as the official designer for their much-awaited wedding.”
Meanwhile, Baltazar thanked Diaz and Naranjo for coming to their atelier and choosing Libiran.
“Indeed, @francislibiran8 and I are so thrilled for this huge milestone project with you!,” he said in his own Instagram page on the same day. “It is absolutely an honor and a pleasure!”
Diaz and Naranjo announced their engagement in October last year. Just a few months prior, on July 26, 2021, Diaz made history for winning the country’s first ever Olympic gold in Tokyo.
