MANILA, Philippines — Megastar Sharon Cuneta joined other personalities and groups in expressing support for Sen. Leila de Lima, who is now spending her fifth year in detention.

Cuneta said she has been praying that De Lima would be released soon.

In a one-minute video shared by the senator’s office on Thursday, the megastar assured De Lima that “we haven’t forgotten about you.”

“Frankie and I adore you and pray for you, and you are so courageous and inspiring, and you should not be in there,” the actress said, referring to her daughter, singer-composer Frankie “Kakie” Pangilinan.

As for the megastar, she said that De Lima should not have been in detention as she could do “so much more” outside.

“We really miss you out here. We need you more out here,” Cuneta went on. “You can do so much more out here. And we keep praying that you be allowed out soon or that you are out, somehow by God’s grace and never-ending mercy.”

“I keep praying for you, Senator Leila and I hope to give you a big hug when I see you finally. Hopefully sooner than we all expect. Frankie and I love you. God Bless you po!” the actress added.

According to the senator’s office, the video was among the clips played as part of the program on De Lima’s 5th year of “unjust detention,” which was highlighted by messages of love, songs, and poems from artists, performers and various groups.

De Lima has been detained since February 2017 over drug charges that she has repeatedly denied.

She is seeking another term in the upcoming elections under the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, who are vying for president and vice president positions, respectively.

Pangilinan is the husband of Cuneta. EDV/JB
