WATCH: ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ second trailer teases more crossovers

Marvel has just released the second trailer for its much-anticipated film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” seeing the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme.
The trailer debuted on Sunday’s Super Bowl in the United States (Feb. 14 in the Philippines) and was simultaneously released on Marvel’s online platforms such as Twitter and YouTube.
Fans are ecstatic with speculations that a brief audio cameo in the trailer is supposedly that of Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X from the “X-Men” movies. If correct, this reinforces fan theories that more characters from the said franchise are indeed set to be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch can also be seen and is speculated to be heading towards an even darker turn. An earlier trailer released as a post-credits scene for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” last year also teased a gone-bad version of Doctor Strange himself.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” follows Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange as he tries to contain the aftermath of the spell he cast in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which fractured the universe and caused villains from other multiverses to penetrate the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
The new film, the first standalone sequel for Doctor Strange, also happens to be set after the events of the miniseries “WandaVision” and “Loki.”
Aside from Cumberbatch and Olsen, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” also features the return of Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo. Xochitl Gomez makes her MCU debut here as America Chavez.
Sam Raimi, who helmed the Spider-Man movies starring Tobey Maguire, is the director. The film is set for release on May 6, after about a year of delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Six weeks of additional photography were said to have been shot last December, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Feb. 13. The reshoots supposedly included more multiverse scenes featuring new cameos and character introductions. AP
