Kim Chiu has given fans some tips on how to attract good luck for Chinese New Year as she welcomed the occasion with her boyfriend, fellow actor Xian Lim.

The actress and “It’s Showtime” host told fans about some Chinese New Year do’s and don’ts based on Chinese beliefs, on her YouTube channel last Monday, Jan. 31.

According to Chiu, sweeping is not advised until the fifth day of the new year and one should not wash their hair on New Year’s Day to avoid “washing away” wealth. She said that arguing and swearing are not allowed as it brings bad luck and taking medicine should also be avoided so that one does not get sick the entire year.

Meanwhile, those who are looking for love this new year should try wearing a brand new red underwear.

“2022 is an interesting year, a year of opportunities, a year of development but also a challenging year. But we must never lose hope and pray for good things to come our way,” she said.

Chiu also paid a visit to feng shui expert Johnson Chua in Binondo to consult on other tips for the Chinese New Year. He showed some items that could bring good luck, which were also approved by Chiu: a prosperity basket and wishing paper.

According to Chua, the prosperity basket should contain rice, kiat kiat, a bell and a red envelope containing P888, among others.

“Lagi kaming may ganito sa bahay namin,” she said. “Lagi kami [naglalagay ng] P888 tapos after nine days, idedeposit ko sa bank account. Tapos ‘yung bigas kinakain namin ‘to after nine days.”

(We always have this at home. We always put P888, then after nine days I deposit it to a bank account. Then we eat the rice after nine days.)

Chiu then admitted she has been using a wishing paper for the past years and she believes it helped fulfill her dream to have a vacation house.

“Proven and tested, lahat ng pumupunta sa bahay namin, nagsusulat kami dito. Imposibleng wala sa mga sinulat nila na hindi nagkatotoo,” she said. “Meron akong sinulat, nagkatotoo talaga. Nakabili ako ng vacation house.”

(Proven and tested, everyone who comes to our house writes on these. It’s impossible that what you wrote here does not come true. I wrote something here, it really came true. I was able to buy a vacation house.)

Chiu stressed that if one’s wish on the paper does not come true immediately, it might not be the right time for it to be fulfilled.

“Hindi ka naman huhusgahan ng Chinese Gods na ‘to kaya okay lang ‘yan,” she told fans. (The Chinese gods won’t judge you, so it’s okay.)

According to Chua, the lucky colors of the year are yellow, red, white, gold and silver. When asked to clarify the difference of the said colors from the color of the year, “Very Peri,” Chua stressed that the latter was for fashion trends.

“Kaya sabi ko talaga nu’ng bagong taon, ‘Hindi eh, parang pakiramdam ko yellow ‘yung lucky color and gold,'” Chiu joked. (That’s why I said during the New Year, “No, I feel that yellow is the lucky color, and gold.”)

Chiu welcomed the Chinese New Year with Lim and her family, as seen on her Instagram page yesterday, Feb. 1. The couple can be seen donning red outfits against a backdrop of red and gold ballons, as well as a life-sized tiger statue.

“Kung Hei Fat Choi! May this New Year bring many opportunities your way, to explore every joy of life and may your resolutions for the days ahead stay firm, turning all your dreams into reality and all your efforts into great achievements!” Chiu greeted fans.  /ra
