LOS ANGELES—The 55th Grammy Awards, the music industry’s annual mega-bash, will take place on February 10, 2013 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, organizers announced Thursday.
The nominations will be unveiled on December 5 at a concert broadcast on US network CBS, which also carries the Grammys telecast. Albums, songs and videos released between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012 are eligible.
The 54th Grammy Awards, which took place on February 12, were clouded by the death the night before of pop superstar Whitney Houston at her Beverly Hills hotel.
British soul diva Adele made a triumphant return to the stage after throat surgery and won a clean sweep of six awards for her breakthrough “21,” named best album of the year.
The awards show is one of the most popular in the United States in terms of viewership. Last year, the event saw its second-highest audience ratings ever, with 39.9 million people tuning in.
Two weeks later, 39.3 million viewers watched the Oscars.
