Chesca Garcia and Doug Kramer have opted to give away their family’s extra supply of medicine for children amid a “shortage” of certain paracetamol brands and other medications.
The couple disclosed their plan to send some of their medicines to fans while showing their personal stock of paracetamol syrup on their respective Instagram pages yesterday, Jan. 7.
“As you can see, we have [paracetamol] for you guys. We know there’s been a shortage. We’ve seen all the posts on Twitter,” Kramer said.
He added that they have been keeping the paracetamol for their three children, but that they are willing to give away two bottles each to at least 16 people with kids aged 6 to 12 years.
“We have our stock here, our personal stock, because we have three children and we have family where we also send these medicines. We left 10 for us, for the kids, and that’s enough. We’re willing to give the rest,” he told fans.
Garcia then noted that they would only be able to give the medicine to those living in Manila, though they assured that they will shoulder delivery fees.
“We left just enough stock for our kids. We’re giving the rest for your children,” the actress addressed the public.
Garcia and Kramer’s decision to give away their extra paracetamol comes after a “temporary shortage” in the supply of certain brands of medicine in some areas of the country.
COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continue to rise again, with 26,458 new infections reported today, Jan. 8. The caseload recorded today is the highest since Sept. 11 last year, when the country reported 26,303 cases.
Active cases now number 102,017, though 95.5 percent of infected individuals are asymptomatic or show mild symptoms.
The Department of Health assured the public that other alternatives are just as effective as branded medicines. They also stated that a local pharmaceutical company has informed them of a shortage of their brand of paracetamol, but is immediately stocking up supply. /ra
