“Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Anji Salvacion wrote an original song entitled “Dalampasigan,” which she dedicated to the residents of her hometown Siargao, one of the most gravely hit areas by super typhoon Odette.
Salvacion performed the song in the recently held ABS-CBN Foundation’s benefit concert “Tulong-Tulong sa Pag-ahon: Andito Tayo para sa Bawat Pamilya,” as seen on ABS-CBN’s Facebook page yesterday, Dec. 23.
“To my family at sa mga kababayan ko sa Siargao, please stay strong, palakas tayo,” she said. Salvacion then addressed her message in their native dialect, which in Filipino means, “‘Wag tayong mapanghinaan ng loob. Magpakatatag tayo.”
(To my family and my fellow natives of Siargao, please stay strong, let’s be strong. Do not lose hope. Let’s be steadfast.)
“Dalampasigan,” which was co-written by Salvacion’s fellow housemates KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad, centers around a journey of love that bloomed from the seashores of Siargao.
“Sa dalampasigan lahat nagsimula, kung saan ang puso’y natutong magmahal. Mga alaala mo’y babaunin ko, sa dalampasigan pa rin ang balik ko,” part of the song goes.
(At the seashore everything started, it’s where my heart learned to love. Your memories I will keep, still to the seashore I will go back.)
Salvacion and her fellow housemates were among the performers of ABS-CBN’s benefit concert for the victims of super typhoon Odette held yesterday, Dec. 23. Other celebrities who also performed were Angeline Quinto, Jed Madela, Jona and Nyoy Volante, among others.
Super typhoon Odette had its first landfall in Siargao last Thursday, Dec. 16. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, the death toll has risen to 326, while 58 are still missing as of this writing. /ra
