Miss World Philippines Tracy Maureen Perez, in partnership with Miss World Philippines organization, has started a relief drive for the victims of super typhoon Odette which recently hit the country.
Perez asked for donations as she showed photos of the damage brought by the typhoon on affected regions of Visayas and Mindanao, on her Instagram page today, Dec. 20. She then appealed in behalf of those cities and provinces that are not “widely broadcasted” but are also in need of help.
“Most of the assistance from national and international sources will surely be centered on the widely broadcasted cities/provinces so let us also help each other and make sure that other areas are known to the world as well because they are in need of our help too,” she said.
The Cebuana beauty queen, who is yet to return to the country, also offered her prayers and urged Filipinos to practice “bayanihan.”
“Ngayon po natin maipapakita ang ating Bayanihan para sa pagbangon ng buong Pilipinas lalo na ang Visayas at Mindanao. I may be thousands of miles away right now but my heart goes out to all of you who are affected, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you,” she said. “Sama sama po tayong babangon, let’s continue to pray and let’s continue to help one another.”

Meanwhile, in a separate post yesterday, Dec.19, Perez expressed her gratitude as she pauses her Miss World 2021 journey due to COVID-19-positive candidates. She spoke about the “rollercoaster of emotions” she experienced in her fight for the crown.
“It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for the whole month most especially the past few days while I did my best to keep myself together and give my 100% every single day as I fight for our country, I’m now on my way to full recovery — physically, mentally, and emotionally,” she said.
“May we be reminded that in these trying times, our dreams and hopes may be on pause but they are never cancelled. Patuloy po tayong lalaban, patuloy tayong babangon Mahal kong Pilipinas,” she said. (We will continue to fight, we will continue to rise my beloved Philippines.)
Perez is the country’s representative for Miss World 2021 which will be held in Puerto Rico. The pageant coronation was postponed last Dec. 17 after 17 candidates and personnel tested positive for COVID-19. JB
