“Gameboys: The Movie” has finally released its official Japanese trailer for its upcoming international theatrical screening in January 2022.

The trailer, shown on The IdeaFirst Company’s Twitter page today, Dec. 1, shows Cairo (Elijah Canlas) and Gavreel (Kokoy De Santos) following the events in the original series’ first season. The two can be seen talking about their relationship and future together, but Gavreel’s aunt Susan (Angie Castrence) pulls them apart.

“Experience the bittersweet continuation of Gavreel and Cairo’s love story in cinemas in Japan this January!” The IdeaFirst Company stated.

“Gameboys: The Movie,” based on the acclaimed Boys’ Love series “Gameboys,” is set for international release on Jan. 21, 2022. It also stars the series’ cast members Adrianna So, Kyle Velino, Miggy Jimenez and Kych Minemoto.

The film is written by Ash Malanum and directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, who are the “Gameboys” series’ writer and director, respectively.

Executive producer Perci Intalan said in an exclusive interview with PEP last month that the theatrical showing of “Gameboys: The Movie” will start in Tokyo, and will possibly roll out to other cities in Japan.

The film was first released locally through the streaming service KTX in July this year.

Meanwhile, the “Gameboys” series was recently nominated in the 2021 International Emmy Awards, under the kids live-action category. It was the only Filipino production that vied for the award, but was bested by the Australian series “First Day.”

The show’s first season debuted on IdeaFirst’s YouTube channel in May 2020, and was met with consistent positive reviews from critics. It also debuted in Philippine network TV in June 2021, through GMA’s Heart of Asia. “Gameboys” is set to release its second season soon..  /ra
