Acclaimed director Chito Roño believes actress Janella Salvador will give a good portrayal of the Filipino supervillain Valentina, saying he was impressed with her audition for the role.

The director noted that he was not disappointed with Salvador’s Valentina audition for the upcoming “Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series,” as per a release by ABS-CBN yesterday, Nov. 24.

“I haven’t really seen her (Salvador) that much except for when she auditioned and I was [kind of] impressed,” Roño said. “I think she would do justice to the character of Valentina. Janella would not only be capable but also interesting to do that different kind of character.”

The director also teased that the upcoming version of Darna will be “modernizing” Valentina.

“We’re modernizing [Valentina],” he told fans. “Totally kakaiba sa dating Valentina (Totally different from the previous Valentina)!”

Meanwhile, JRB Creative Production gave fans a first look at “Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series” on its Facebook page last Monday, Nov. 22. It showed the series’ lead actress, Jane de Leon, as Narda, the alter-ego of the iconic superhero Darna.

Salvador was introduced to portray Valentina during a casting event for ABS-CBN last Friday, Nov. 19.

The actress said she has been working out and dieting to prepare for the role, though she is yet to train for it. Salvador will be joining previously announced cast members Iza Calzado, Joshua Garcia and Zaijian Jaranilla, among others.

“Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series” finally started taping last Nov. 15. A premiere date for the show has not yet been announced as of this writing.  /ra
