Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach has registered to vote in Abu Dhabi for the 2022 elections and urged fans to also exercise their right to vote.

Wurtzbach registered at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, as seen on her Instagram page last Friday, Sept. 17. She has been flying to and from Abu Dhabi for work and thought she may not be in the Philippines in time for the national elections.

“The last time I was in Abu Dhabi, I realized that I might not be home in the Philippines come elections time. And I don’t want to miss this coming [election],” the beauty queen said.

Wurtzbach pointed out that she will be having more trips to Abu Dhabi next year, so she registered abroad to make sure she will be able to cast her ballot.

“Whether I’ll be working or traveling, this is my promise to myself and my commitment to my country that I will be able to cast my vote on May 9,” she added.

Wurtzbach then encouraged the public to register for the upcoming national polls and to vote on election day.

“Your vote matters. Let’s all do our part,” she said. “Kung mahal mo ang Pilipinas, gawin natin ang ating karapatan na bumoto para sa ating bayan.” (If you love the Philippines, let’s exercise our right to vote for our country.)

There are more than 62 million registered voters in the country with five million new voters, as per the Commission on Elections (Comelec) last Thursday, Sept. 16. This is double the 1.5 to two million new voters expected by the Comelec.

Since the agency has reached its target number of new registrants, the Comelec is not inclined to extend the voter registration period. However, registration sites have extended their hours and opened on Saturdays and holidays.

Voter registration will continue until Sept. 30. JB
