For Sitti Navarro, bossa nova “will always” be her “home.” So while she may have dabbled in other genres like pop and electronic dance, she ultimately found herself returning to her roots in her latest single, “Buti Na Lang Hindi Ikaw.”

“I can go to other places, try other things like any person does in a lifelong quest of knowing and understanding one’s self but I will always go back to bossa nova,” Sitti said in an interview for the song, which was recently released across different streaming platforms by her new label, Widescope Entertainment.

Sitti rose to fame in the mid-2000s with her breakthrough hit “Para Sa Akin,” which started a trend of easy listening tunes that fuse pop and bossa nova. She would later on divernsify her catalog, putting out pop-ballads, like in her album “Sitti Sessions,” as well as EDM in “Electro Sitti.”

In her bossa nova comeback, Sitti, quite fittingly, turns to her frequent collaborator Emil Pama, the same composer behind the songs “Para Sa Akin,” “Kung ’Di Rin Lang Ikaw” and “Sinong Mag-aakala.”

“‘Buti Na Lang Hindi Ikaw’ is dedicated to everyone who already managed to move on,” the 36-year-old artist said of the song, parts of which go, ‘Heto ako ngayo’y masaya / Nanumbalik muli ang sigla / Mundo ko’y muntik nang magunaw / Buti na lang hindi ikaw.’”

Because she has been juggling family life and entrepreneurship as of late, her career had to take a backseat. But that doesn’t have to stop her from doing the things she love. In fact, she worked on the new song while expecting a second baby. “It was recorded and released while I’m preggy!” said Sitti, whose first child, daughter Issiah Dañelle, is turning three this year.

“It’s easy for my career to take the backseat for now given that I’m expecting and raising a nearly 3-year-old child. And we’re still in a pandemic,” she said.

Grateful

Sitti is also looking forward to continuing her journey with Widescope Entertainment, which is run by friends and people who were instrumental to her past successes, like the label’s A&R coordinator Ebe Dancel and producer Neil Gregorio, who helmed her double platinum-certified album “Cafe Bossa.”

“I’m working with old friends! I’m also excited to be working with Ebe. I will always be a fan of his, as an artist and person. To be working with creatives of a top advertising firm who’s also into producing songs is a win for me,” she added.

Sitti has been in the music industry for 15 years now. And her longevity she credits to all the people who have helped her along the way. “I’m grateful to be surrounded by discerning ears who help me have clarity,” she said.
