Given the chance to choose a leading lady, Ervic Vijandre said he might as well dream big and go for Heart Evangelista and Bea Alonzo.

“Heart has been my crush since I was in high school. And she’s even more beautiful now. I also like Bea Alonzo. I would love to be either actress’ leading man [in a show]. Hihiling ka na lang din, then wish for the best!” he said in a virtual conference, after his recent contract renewal with GMA Artist Center.

Ervic has already worked with Heart in a number of shows in the past, but not as partners. Bea, on the other hand, he has met a few times. “Heart is friendly and kind. She’s fun to be with. Bea came from another network so that would be new for me. But we have common friends,” he related. What about her ex-girlfriend, Marian Rivera? “Well, if given the opportunity, why not? It has been about 11 years since we last worked together, so that would be different,” he said.

The 35-year-old actor, who was last seen in the afternoon series “Ang Dalawang Ikaw,” hopes to do more comedic roles moving forward. “I had a chance to try that out in the sitcom ‘A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo’ and I really enjoyed the experience. Lighthearted roles are closer to my real personality,” he said.

“I’m usually cast as the bad guy or villain, but I’m the opposite offscreen. I love goofing around … palabiro, mapang-asar,” he added. “I’m thankful for the roles I have been getting, but of course, you also dream of achieving something greater. Nonetheless, I already feel blessed.”

No limitations

Doing gay or sexy roles won’t be problem either for him. “I’m open to those because I believe it will challenge me. I’m comfortable with my sexuality, so I don’t worry about such roles… Game ako,” Ervic said. “I don’t really have limitations, even when it comes to sexy roles, I’m OK.”

Hosting lifestyle and sports programs, he added, is also a dream. “I enjoy watching travel and food shows, which kept me up at night during quarantine… I’m also knowledgeable in sports, which I love, so I would know what to talk about,” said Ervic, who used to play in PBA’s D-League.

Biggest worry

Outside show biz, Ervic has been busy doing volunteer work in San Juan City, where he helps in distributing relief goods, among others. “I’m open to anything I can do to help the community. It’s in our instinct to help those who are in need… I don’t call it politics, but public service,” said Ervic, who has no plans of running for office yet.

He also runs a gym and a restaurant, which thankfully, he said, manages to continue operating despite the pandemic. “I’m glad it’s still there, because my biggest worry is closing the business and leaving the employees without jobs. But fortunately, we have been managing and didn’t need to cut down our staff. Now the focus is to survive and earn enough for ourselves,” he said.

But regardless of what happens in his career or personal life, Ervic considers himself lucky that he’s here at all. Earlier this year, he figured in a road accident, which could have ended worse.

“This is my second life… On my way to Batangas, I had an accident in a curved and dark section of the road. My vehicle rolled over, just like in the movies. I didn’t think it could actually happen in real life. My car was wrecked. But I was lucky to get out unscathed,” he recalled. “I can’t ask for more. Just waking up every day and being with our loved ones are things to be thankful for; things we shouldn’t take for granted,” Ervic said.
