MANILA, Philippines — Working in an industry where appearance is a premium, actress-singer Sue Ramirez said there was never a point in her life when she felt she did not look good enough.

“I have a strong support system. Everybody made me feel confident,” Ramirez said at a virtual event on May 27 which launched her as the celebrity endorser of a whitening soap.

“I know it’s cliche to say, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You cannot please everybody,” the actress said when the Inquirer.net asked if she ever felt not pretty.

The 24-year-old Kapamilya star said the secret is learning how to appreciate oneself, and recognizing that not everybody will appreciate the beauty that you have.

“Beauty is not a trait, it’s a feeling. It comes from within,” Ramirez explained.

She counts herself fortunate for not ever feeling insufficient. However, Ramirez offered these words to those who are struggling with their own confidence: “You are beautiful. Walang pangit sa mundo. Walang pangit na ginawa ang Diyos. (Nothing in this world is ugly. God did not create anything ugly).”

However, she still acknowledged the need to take care of herself and her skin because “my line of work can be so demanding.”

Ramirez said a “simple” skin care routine works perfectly fine for her, something that’s “easier and less demanding. Walang drama-drama (no nonsense).”

But she cautioned Filipino women about adhering to a certain celebrity’s beauty regimen. “We have different skin types, you have to check. Filipino women should have more choices made available for them so they may find what works for them,” Ramirez said.

She also said one needs to “glow” to feel beautiful.

Ramirez was recently cast in “The Broken Marriage Vow,” the Philippine TV adaptation of the hit British drama “Doctor Foster,” which was also remade in Korea as “The World of the Married.”
