Paolo Guico of the award-winning folk pop band Ben&Ben revealed that the group’s upcoming song “Magpahinga” was written when his sister tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this year.
“The new song we’re releasing, ‘Magpahinga,’ was written when our sister got COVID-19 more than a month ago. It was one of the toughest times for our family,” the band vocalist said on his Twitter page yesterday, May 12.
Guico added that his sister has since recovered from the disease, but he also acknowledged that other families were not able to witness the same thing happen to their loved ones.
“Our sister recovered, but there are so many out there who aren’t as fortunate, and many likewise are enduring the heaviest of days right now. This song is for all of you,” he stated.
Guico also reminded people that it is okay to rest “in the middle of these dark days.”

Shortly after Guico released his statement, Ben&Ben teased a few lines from “Magpahinga” through a video on its Twitter page on the same day. Guico can be heard encouraging people to take a step back and to rest if they have problems.
“Ang sabi mo/ Dito ka lang sa’kin, magpahinga muna/ Lalabanan din/ Mga dambuhalang ‘di maubos na problema/ Malapit na/ Pero ‘di kasalanang magpahinga,” he sings.
The video has since garnered over 415,000 views on Facebook and 145,000 views on Twitter, as of writing.

Ben&Ben, known for their hit songs such as “Kathang Isip” and “Pagtingin,” recently released the single “Upuan” which describes the romance that can be built between two people who sit close to each other. JB
