Marvel Studios has finally given fans the first glimpse of Oscar winner Chloe Zhao’s “Eternals” as it looks back at its past decade of movies while also hyping up its future in cinema.
The studio dropped the new promo, aptly titled “Marvel Celebrates the Movies,” yesterday, May 4, via its YouTube and social media pages.
“I love being with people. It’s the most incredible thing in the world. That world may change and evolve, but the one thing that will never change: we’re all part of one big family,” Marvel legend Stan Lee says as the promo takes fans on a nostalgic trip by showing some iconic moments from previous films.
The video also shared a glimpse of the audience’s reaction to the iconic “portals” scene in “Avengers: Endgame” to cap off its last phase before teasing its coming projects.
MCU Phase 4
Giving fans something to look forward to, Marvel shared a few new scenes from “Black Widow,” which will be released on July 9, and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which will hit theaters on Sept. 3.
Fans were also given the first look at “Eternals” – Marvel’s group of immortal beings tasked with protecting the Earth in the comics – which has yet to have its own separate trailer as of this writing. It is set to be released on Nov. 5.
The film, directed by Zhao, features a star-studded cast including Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Kit Harington, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan, Lia McHugh and Don Lee.
The teaser also shared the official release dates and titles of other upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films included in its Phase 4 lineup.
Following “Black Widow,” “Shang-Chi” and “The Eternals” are “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” to be released on Dec. 17, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” to be released on March 25, 2022 and “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which will be released on May 6, 2022.
The title of the sequel to “Black Panther,” which featured the late Chadwick Boseman in the title role, has also been revealed as “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and will be hitting theaters on July 8, 2022.
The “Captain Marvel” sequel has also been revealed as ‘The Marvels,” which will see the return of Brie Larson and is expected to feature Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau (from “WandaVision”) and Iman Villani’s Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. The movie will be released on Nov. 11, 2022.
“Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania,” which will see the return of Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily in the titular roles, will, meanwhile, kick off Marvel’s 2023 run as it is slated for a Feb. 17, 2023 release.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” starring Chriss Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan and Vin Diesel, will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
Marvel then ended the promo by teasing its upcoming “Fantastic 4” movie with a logo, although the release date was not revealed. With the pace that Marvel is going – four films a year and several television shows – fans may expect to see “Fantastic 4” drop also in 2023. /ra
