“Captain America 4” is now in the works as Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson starts wielding the Captain America shield within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter yesterday, April 23, comes immediately after the airing of the finale for “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” which saw Mackie’s official transformation into Captain America.

Malcolm Spellman, the head writer and creator of the said Disney+ series, is co-writing the script of the fourth “Captain America” film with Dalan Musson, another writer for the series.

This will be the first movie starring Mackie as Captain America himself; the first three films had Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers wielding the famous shield.

No castings have been officially revealed, according to the report, although fans can expect Sebastian Stan to reprise his role as Bucky Barnes a.k.a. the Winter Soldier.

Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker a.k.a the US Agent and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine are also expected to return, among others.

The series, which premiered on March 19, has been praised for tackling issues such as discrimination and racism against Black people, thanks to its nearly all-Black assembly of writers, the report said. Ian Biong /ra
