Ciara Sotto came to Maine Mendoza’s defense after the latter received bashing for resurfaced offensive tweets that she made years ago.

Mendoza was criticized for using the N-word and “bading” (gay) as an insult in tweets that she made when she was a teenager. The 26-year-old actress issued a public apology last Friday, admitting that it was “careless” of her to write such statements.

Sotto expressed her love and support for Mendoza by addressing her directly in a Twitter post yesterday, April 17.

“You are not defined by your past mistakes. Whatever you’ve been through doesn’t have to be the end of you. You are valuable and irreplaceable. And I love you,” she said to her “Eat Bulaga” co-host.

Sotto also told her fans to be kind and stop spreading hate, through another tweet on the same day.

“All of us have made mistakes in the past that we regret, especially when we were younger. Being a celebrity doesn’t mean we are not allowed to make those mistakes. We are human just like you,” she stated.

Mendoza’s now-deleted tweets drew mixed reactions from netizens. Some called her homophobic and racist while others defended her by saying people can grow and change. JB
