Alessandra De Rossi pleaded with the government to “not take Filipinos for granted” amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and fatalities and President Rodrigo Duterte’s two-week absence from the public eye.

During his absence, Duterte was seen jogging, golfing and riding a motorbike at night in the photos shared by his former longtime aide, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go.

It was not immediately clear, however, when and where the photos and videos were taken. In a taped address released on Monday night, April 12, Duterte said it was his intention to hide from the public.

“On a serious note, STOP TAKING FILIPINOS FOR GRANTED! yes, resilient tayo, and very understanding, pero may hangganan ang lahat. Ang dami naming kayang ibigay. May mga pangarap din at pamilya,” De Rossi tweeted on the same day.

(On a serious note, stop taking Filipinos for granted! Yes, we are resilient and very understanding, but everything has a limit. We have so much to offer. We have dreams and families.)

“Don’t take our lives for granted! Tulong (Help). We need support. Not sports. Ay natweet (Oops, I tweeted it),” the actress added.

Prior to the said tweet, De Rossi lamented the rise in COVID-19 cases and joked that she would go golfing, taking a swipe at Duterte’s alleged activities during his absence.

In a tweet made earlier today, April 14, De Rossi quipped that it was nice to see the “white sand beach” of Manila Bay being taken care of while the people struggle from the pandemic.

“Buti pa Manila Bay na-retouch na. Kami, hulas pa rin (It is nice to see Manila Bay getting retouched. We, on the other hand, are still haggard),” the actress said.

Just yesterday, April 13, crushed dolomite was seen being poured again at the bay’s coastline as part of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program launched by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Also yesterday, the Department of Health recorded 8,571 additional infections, bringing the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country to 165,534.  /ra
