Leila Alcasid has opened up to fans about her struggles against eating disorder and her problems with her body brought about by other peoples’ comments.

The 23-year-old singer disclosed that remarks on her body had affected her in the last few years, such that she was already depriving herself of food.

While she disclosed that she is still currently struggling, Alcasid is now slowly overcoming her body-image problems and is learning to be more comfortable in her own skin.

“I am very slowly learning how to be kind to myself and my body, and it’s the most wonderful feeling,” she shared on Instagram on April 7.

“Over the last few years I’ve received lots of messages asking about my weight loss and how I managed it, and I never really knew how to answer,” she said.

“I have a long and frustrating history with an eating disorder, and was never quite able to look at my body with kindness and love,” Alcasid added.

The young singer also admitted having tried “intense diets” and even depriving herself “rather than providing the nourishment” she needed.

“I could never give a proper answer as to how I lost weight, because I didn’t want anyone else to be so cruel to themselves,” Alcasid emphasized.

She noted that her struggles have caused her weight to fluctuate over the last five years and stressed that “it has ultimately ruled [her] life.”

Even during the time she was “eating so litte,” Alcasid shared that people—both on social media and in person—would always comment on her weight and tell her that she “wasn’t thin enough.”

“I allowed the opinions of others to have such a grip on me, and it was incredibly damaging,” she stressed.

Fortunately, Alcasid has been able to turn her life around and break free from being consumed by others’ opinions on her image.

“Now, I am at a place where I can say I love my body regardless of the bumps, curves, and stretch marks. I move to feel strong, and eat to feel nourished,” she stressed.

“I still struggle, like anyone else, but I’m working on it and I’m proud of myself,” Alcasid added.

She also advised people who look and compare themselves with others’ photos on social media to not feel down and “remember that you are strong and beautiful,” adding that “life is too short.”

Alcasid is the eldest child of OPM icon Ogie Alcasid, who last month advised her how to deal with bashers online. She is currently dating rapper Curtismith.  /ra
