Elizabeth Oropesa adopts dogs rescued from pound

A dog lover at heart, veteran actress Elizabeth Oropesa recently made room for two more rescued dogs in her home.

After taking in the mutts yesterday, March 2, Oropesa now has 15 in her canine brood, she said on Facebook.

“Today I adopted 2 fur [babies] from the [Orangefamily] rescue team of Eclaire Lagmay. Pls meet BATMAN and ROBIN!” she wrote.

The animal welfare group Orangefamily recently rescued 21 dogs from the Sta. Maria, Bulacan, pound, as seen in Lagmay’s Facebook post last Feb. 24.

Dogs left in pounds are subject to mercy killing, according to the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007, which states that dogs unclaimed after three days can be either put up for adoption or euthanized.

Oropesa is a multi-awarded actress who has appeared in movies of acclaimed director Ishmael Bernal (“Lumapit, Lumayo ang Umaga,” “Nunal sa Tubig”). Decades into her career, she has been praised for her performances—she swept best actress awards for her role in the 1999 movie “Bulaklak ng Maynila.”

When she is not acting, Oropesa is a doting mom to her dogs and also advocates against animal cruelty.  /ra
