Disney is releasing its first song in the Filipino language in time for “Raya and the Last Dragon,” the first movie from the studio with a Southeast Asian princess.
The Walt Disney Studios’ official account in the Philippines teased the song’s performer with a silhouette of her yesterday, March 1.
“The first Filipino-language song from Disney, sung by one of the Philippines’ most powerful voices. Find out who she is tomorrow,” it said.
Social media users were quick to give their guesses. Among them were Sarah Geronimo, KZ Tandingan, Morissette Amon and Ylona Garcia.
“Raya and the Last Dragon” follows warrior Raya who seeks the last dragon to restore peace in the fantasy world of Kumandra. Kelly Marie Tran (“Star Wars”) voices Raya, while Awkwafina (“Crazy Rich Asians”) is the dragon Sisu.
The movie is set to premiere in streaming service Disney+ and theaters this March. However, it is unclear how Filipinos will get access to it, given that Disney+ has yet to be made available in the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia. /ra
