Jane de Leon has admitted having cried over the exit of director Jerrold Tarog from the upcoming series “Darna,” where she will star as the titular heroine.
De Leon disclosed that Tarog had to leave as he has committed himself to another project he is supposed to do after “Darna,” which was originally set to be released in May 2021 before getting postponed.
“Sobrang love na love na love ko yan si direk Jerrold. I cried talaga and I really do understand kasi diba dapat May na yung showing ng movie ng ‘Darna,’ if ever, May 21,” De Leon said in a media conference for “Ang Probinsyano” yesterday, Feb. 5.
(I really love direk Jerrold. I actually cried and I really do understand because “Darna” was originally supposed to come out in May, if ever, May 21.)
“Pero kasi ngayon meron ng nakalaan na proyekto after ‘Darna’ and ito ‘yung oras na ‘yun for him to do that movie. Yes, kailangan ko siya suportahan,” the actress added.
(But the thing is that he already has a commitment to a project he will do after “Darna,” and now is the time for him to do that movie. Yes, I need to support him.)
“Pero iba si direk Jerrold. Direk, alam mong mahal na mahal kita. Direk Jerrold, sobrang mahal na mahal talaga kita and ‘yung suporta na binibigay niya sa akin and yung tiwala — kasi lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya, ‘Direk, bakit ba ako yung pinili mo?’ Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya ‘yun eh. ‘Ano bang meron sa akin?’ And lagi niya sa akin sinasabi, ‘Basta pagkatiwalaan mo ako sa desisyon ko, sa desisyon ng management,'” De Leon recalled.
(But direk Jerrold is different. Direk, you know that I love you so much. Direk Jerrold, I love you very much and the support and trust you have given me—I always ask him, “Direk, why did you choose me?” I always tell him that. “What is special about me?” And he always answers, “Just trust my decision and the management’s decision.”)
“He’s like my brother. I can share everything sa kanya; mapa-personal na buhay ‘yan, trabaho. And sobrang thankful ako kay Lord na nakilala ko si direk Jerrold. Napakabait na director,” she added.
(He’s like my brother. I can share everything with him, be it personal or work-related. And I am very thankful to the Lord that I met direk Jerrold. He is a very kind director.)
The “Goyo” director last month announced that he will not be directing the “Darna” series because of the said scheduling conflicts. However, he noted that “some doors remain open regarding my future involvement in the [Mars] Ravelo universe.”
Before leaving the project, Tarog was supposed to replace filmmaker Erik Matti for the “Darna” film adaptation, which has now been turned into a series. Production was postponed last year due to the pandemic. /ra
