Drug war docu ‘Aswang’ up for an Oscar
MANILA, Philippines — “Aswang,” a documentary that follows the first two years of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, has qualified for consideration in the Best Documentary Feature category at the 93rd Academy Awards.
“Aswang” is among the 283 documentary features that may be included in a shortlist of 15 films to be announced on Feb. 9, the Academy said in its website.
“The film is eligible for the Awards after winning the grand prize at Academy-qualifying DMZ International Documentary Film Festival,” a post on the documentary’s official Facebook page read.

According to its official synopsis, director Alyx Arumpac’s “Aswang” tells the story of people whose lives entwine with the growing violence over the two years of killings in Manila.
In last year’s Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards, “Aswang” won Best Picture, Best Documentary, Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
