MMFF bares nominees for 2020

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Chairman of the Board of Jurors Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles on Thursday announced this year’s full list of nominees.

Aside from Nograles, among the panel of judges for this year’s batch of MMFF entries were Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Rachel Arenas, acclaimed Filipino novelist Lualhati Bautista, Ormoc City Mayor and actor Richard Gomez, Directors’ Guild President Paolo Villaluna, and Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino Urian President Gary Devilles.

Also included in the list of panelists were Jay Durias, the award-winning musical director for the 2017 film “Respeto”; Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Assistant General Manager Corazon Cruz; MMDA Consultant Belinda Enriquez; and senior CNN Philippines anchor and correspondent Rico Hizon.

Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic, MMFF organizers in October announced that the two-week-long event will push through despite the pandemic and will be held “purely online.”

The 46th edition of the MMFF is set to open on Christmas Day and can be viewed via the streaming site Upstream.
