Deserving winners in OPM singing tilt
“ANGEL AQUINO and Maricar Reyes never cease to amaze me with their acting ability and screen presence,” says Fely Solis, housewife. “They have become television staples of late, but their presence is always welcome. They’re never boring to watch—attacking their roles with quiet sensitivity and restraint, which are seldom seen in teleseryes, where over-the-top performances are the norm.
“Reyes is even more impressive, because she’s relatively new but can hold her own alongside acting veterans, like her performance last week on ‘Maalala Mo Kaya,’ with Piolo Pascual and Pen Medina.”
Other notes:
Roger Guinto, bank employee: “Watching Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mangaawit (OPM) and Pagcor’s delayed telecast of the grand finals of the nationwide search for the Total OPM Performer on NBN-4 brought me back to the time when singing-tilt winners were determined by a well-chosen board of judges who really know how to choose the best singers. We’ve had enough of text votes-determined winners whose careers have gone nowhere.
“Winner Marie Joyce Tañaña was truly deserving. Standout ang performance niya—a mix of Marilen Martinez and Dulce. Hindi na n’ya kailangang bumirit. Among the guys, I like Renz Ruther Robosa, who ended up in third place. He could be a balladeer in the mold of Martin Nievera or Ogie Alcasid.

Fleur Sta. Maria, student: “Jennilyn Mercado hasn’t fared well in affairs of the heart, nor with her relationship with her parents—how luckless can you get? But, I like her. She’s strong and tough and doesn’t break down and cry easily. I wish she didn’t talk so much about her breakup with Dennis Trillo, though. As the saying goes, ‘Some things are better left unsaid.’”
