Jaya paid tribute to her mother, the late Elizabeth Ramsey, in a heartfelt letter she penned and shared on Instagram last Thursday, Sept. 17.
The soul singer admitted that she still misses her mother five years after her passing as she remembers her positivity, saying, “You always carried through life as if everything is so laughable.”
“You never showed people negative vibes. People smiled whenever you walked into any room,” Jaya said.
“Bawat labas mo ng bahay, putok ang makeup mo parang laging may Production Number (Every time you left the house, you had so much makeup so that it always looked like you had a production number),” she quipped.
The singer’s tribute came with a throwback photo of the veteran singer and actress, who passed away in 2015 at 83 years old.
Jaya also noted how Ramsey captured the hearts of everyone, rich or poor, and that she “treated everyone equally.”
“Walang masamang tinapay sa iyo. Lahat ng klase ng tao, minahal mo. Kaya naman lubos ang pagpapasalamat ko sa Panginoon na ikaw ang aking naging Ina at Ama,” the doting daughter stressed.
(There was no bad bread for you. You loved all types of people. That is why I am extremely grateful to God that you became both my mother and father.)
“Ang aking tatag, tapang, pang-unawa, paniniwala sa Diyos at pagmamahalal at pakikisama sa kapwa, pagkanta, lahat lahat itinuro mo sa akin,” Jaya added.
(My resilience, understanding, faith in God as well as love and fellowship with others, all of them you taught me.)
Despite missing her mother, Jaya said that she is happy that Ramsey is now with the Lord, saying that they will be together again in the future.
“Magkikita rin tayong muli, pero wag muna ngayon ha Ma (We will see each other again, but not now, okay Ma)?!?” she joked.
Ramsey, dubbed as the “Queen of Rock and Roll,” was known for her musical talents, spunk and irreverent humor as one of the country’s veteran comedians. /ra
