Award-winning indie films such as “Mamu; and a Mother Too” and “Baka Bukas” will soon be streaming on YouTube for a limited time.
Cinema One’s YouTube channel will host six films from Aug. 30 at 12 midnight to Sept. 6, 11:59 p.m., the network announced yesterday, Aug. 26, on its social media pages.
The other four films available are “Happyland,” “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros,” “Paglisan” and “Tisay.”
“Mamu,” directed by Rod Singh, made history after its star, Iyah Mina, became the first transgender woman to receive the Best Actress award at the Cinema One Original Awards Night in 2018.
The film chronicles the struggles of a trans sex worker who wants breast implants, then finds herself an unexpected mother to her orphaned niece who is a transgender youth.
“Paglisan,” an animated dramedy, meanwhile, bagged the most awards in the same awards night. It follows a couple whose crumbling marriage is tested even more when the husband is diagnosed with dementia and the wife struggles with depression.
