MANILA, Philippines — Vivian Velez has slammed Vice President Leni Robredo for her recent address to the nation, with the actress calling it as the “worst political branding.”
“The worst political branding… it’s so fake,” Velez, who is an avid supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Velez is currently the director-general of the Film Academy of the Philippines.
Velez also blasted Robredo’s team for making her “look smarter” as Robredo addressed the nation.
“Obviously, they want to make her look smarter (kasi nga boba) [because she’s an idiot] with those glasses on and books on the table, not to mention the color choice of her outfit,” the actress said.
“Ano ‘to, shooting? Playing ‘the president’ daw sya? (What is this? Is she playing “the president?”) Velez added.
In another Facebook post on Tuesday, Velez even likened Robredo’s choice of outfit to that of “Iskul Bukol’s” ill-tempered professor, Miss Tapia, portrayed by late actress Mely Tagasa.
In Robredo’s address on Monday, she made recommendations to improve the Philippine economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
And in the latter part of her address, the Vice President took a swipe at the government, saying that people will make way to overcome the pandemic “if there is no one leading.”
“At kung walang mamumuno, tayo mismo ang hahakbang, tayo mismo ang magtutulungan, tayo mismo ang bibitbit sa isa’t isa,”
(If there is no one leading, we ourselves will make a step, we will help each other, we will carry each other.)
Duterte, in a public address aired Tuesday, asked Robredo not to “add fuel to the fire.”
“Please do not add fuel to the fire. You will just destroy government. Wag ninyong sirain ang gobyerno kasi masisira ang tao. Pag nasisira ang gobyerno, lulutang tayong lahat. Maski na sabihin ninyo mamatay ako bukas, it cannot solve the problem of the country,” Duterte said.
(Do not destroy the government because it will also destroy the people. If the government is destroyed, we will all float away. Even if you say that I will die tomorrow, it cannot solve the problem of the country.) [ac]
