Pinoy hip-hop icon Gloc-9 and Mayonnaise frontman Monty Macalino shed light on the struggles of many Filipinos through a timely new song.
Composed by Gloc-9 (Aristotle Pollisco in real life), “Iba’t Ibang Bangka” talks of the stark contrast between how the underprivileged and the rich face a single problem, a relevant thought amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The lyric video for the new track premiered on the veteran rapper’s YouTube channel earlier today, Aug. 20.
“Iisang bagyo / Pero iba’t ibang bangka / Sadya bang ganito? / Walang magagawa,” Macalino sings as the track’s hook. “Pahupain ang hangin / At patilain ang ulan / Sa iisang bagyo / Pero iba’t ibang bangka.”
In true Gloc-9 fashion, he narrates in the song how the wealthy have their privileges, rapping “Hampasin man ng mataas na alon ay ‘di matinag / Kumapal man ang ulan laging may malakas na sinag.”
The rapper also shares a relevant take on how the pandemic-induced lockdown has highlighted the poor’s struggle for survival, with some being forced to go outdoors and face the virus just so they can earn and eat for the day.
“De makina hindi sagwan andar ay mabilis / Mga pagkaing tinatapon kahit na hindi panis / May bubong, may silid kaya walang umaalis / Taga-luto, taga-ligpit, meron ding taga-walis,” he raps, emphasizing the perks of the rich.
“Habang ang ilan ay sagana at marami ang wala / Pudpod na telang may apoy gasera para mangapa / May kumot kapag maginaw, ang iba nama’y basa / Dito sa iisang bagyo pero iba’t ibang bangka,” Gloc-9 emphasizes.
Prior to “Iba’t Ibang Bangka,” Gloc-9 and Macalino had collaborated for the 2016 track titled “Sagwan,” which highlights the struggles of Filipino sailors and seamen. /ra
